With all of the changes and uncertainty that 2020 has brought us, one thing that won’t change is that summer will soon come to an end. Days will get shorter and the air will get cooler. Children will begin to return to school in some form or fashion and working parents will face another set of challenges that HR professionals will play a role in helping them navigate.
I want to thank you all for continuing to participate in our monthly programs. I realize that Zoom fatigue is a reality for most of us, so we are dedicated to bringing you quality, timely programs that will meet your professional needs and provide recertification credits as well.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dedra Miller for her dedication to WSHRMA and share some news with the chapter for anyone not aware. Dedra had a change in her professional life this year. She has transitioned out of HR and into the C-suite, as the Executive Director of Holly Ridge. I can’t wait to see what wonders she will accomplish there! With her transition, Dedra was very transparent that she will not have the time or HR focus in 2021 to serve the WSHRMA board in the way that she would want to serve. I have the upmost respect for Dedra and wish her the best. I know that our paths will cross again and that our chapter will likely call on her as a diversity and inclusion subject matter expert in the future.
In light of this change, Rachael Taylor and I have agreed to continue in our current roles of President and Past President/SHRM Foundation for the 2021 year. We are actively recruiting for board members for next year. If you are interested in being a part of the board, please contact me so we can see where your time and talents may fit best.
As always, please feel free to reach out to any of your WSHRMA board members if you need assistance. We are here for you!

October SHRM Foundation Campaign
Each year, WSHRMA hosts a silent auction in December and donates all proceeds to the SHRM Foundation. Unfortunately due to the current circumstances, we will not be holding our silent auction this year. Since we know that so many of our members have benefited directly from the foundation and would like a chance to make their annual donation, we are going to do things differently this year.
In October, WSHRMA is launching a campaign to support the SHRM Foundation! If you donate any amount in the month of October, you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card! Stay tuned for more details on how to donate. For more information about the SHRM Foundation and the incredible things they do for our profession, visit https://shrm.org/foundation/about.
